The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Electricity Markets and Policy Group works on driving demand for home energy efficiency improvements explores strategies that can be used to increase the adoption of comprehensive home energy upgrades. The LBNL Electricity and Markets Policy webpage hosts reports, webinars, and resources for energy program managers. Resource publication categories include energy efficiency, renewable energy, smart grid, distributed energy resources, regional planning, and energy sector modeling.
In the September 2010 report, Driving Demand for Home Energy Improvements, the group highlights case studies and lessons learned in 14 energy programs throughout the United States. The report discusses program design elements, success metrics, costs and savings, as well as reviewing lessons learned from past programs and discussing challenges to implementing energy improvement efforts. One key conclusion is that “success requires a holistic approach,” where program funders and implementers support long-term commitments to facilitate energy market transformations.
